Principals' Student Learning Center
An accredited school that helps Washington high school students earn or recover course credit through mastery-based coursework delivered at university campuses and partner sites across the state.
What the center does
The Principals' Student Learning Center is a supplemental, accredited school. Coursework is mastery-based: students demonstrate they've learned the material rather than logging a fixed number of seat hours. Courses are taught and supervised by teachers certified in Washington state, and once a student finishes, the center sends an official transcript to the student's home high school.
Where credit is earned
Credit currently runs through several partner programs, most of them concentrated in the summer.
Dare to Dream academies
With OSPI's Migrant Education Program and the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). Juniors and seniors take the Academic Academy, math or lab science plus leadership, for credit. Incoming ninth and tenth graders take Exploring Your Future, English/language arts plus leadership. Held each summer at five Washington public university campuses: Central Washington, Eastern Washington, the University of Washington, Washington State (Pullman and Spokane), and Western Washington.
YESS, with Pacific Education Institute
A five- to six-week summer internship. Students earn CTE natural resource credit while working hands-on at community partner sites in fields like forestry, agriculture, and restoration, alongside classroom time. Paid stipend.
Mount Sky, an AWSL affinity program
A Native American high school leadership camp at Cispus Learning Center, built around cultural expression and tribal focus alongside leadership skill-building. Leadership credit is available when a student's attendance is not funded by ASB dollars.
Los Caminos, an AWSL affinity program
A bilingual leadership camp and program for Latino and Latinx high school students, formerly known as La Cima. Leadership credit is available when a student's attendance is not funded by ASB dollars.
State Board of Education, Student Member courses
For the high school student who serves as the state's Student Member on the Board of Education: Government, Politics, and Law - Independent Study in the junior year, then Public Policy in the senior year. Each is a half-credit, independent-study course with an instructor as mentor.
Health Sciences, with university partners
Credit support for Native American students in Health Sciences, offered in 2023 and 2024.
Who this is for
Students who need to accrue elective or required credit, or catch up on credit they've fallen behind on. Most current pathways are built for migrant, Native American, Deaf, and Latinx students, often through a school's Migrant Education Program contact. Referrals typically come through a student's counselor or principal.
Accreditation
The Principals' Student Learning Center is accredited through the Association of Educational Service Districts (AESD), Washington's nine-ESD accreditation network, under the oversight of ESD 113 in Tumwater. The current six-year accreditation is contingent on a satisfactory third-year review, most recently completed in 2025 and 2026.
